Prayer of Thanksgiving – I

O Lord my Savior and my Master, I, Thine unprofitable servant, with fear and trembling give thanks unto Thy loving goodness for all Thy benefits which Thou hast poured so abundantly upon me, Thy servant. I fall down in adoration before Thee and offer Thee, O God, my praises; with fervor I cry to Thee: O God, deliver me henceforth from all adversities and mercifully fulfill in me such of my desires as may be expedient for me. Hear me, I entreat Thee, and have mercy, for Thou art the Hope of all the ends of the earth, and unto Thee, with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, be ascribed glory, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving - II

I praise Thee, O God of our Fathers, I sing hymns of praise to Thee, I bless Thee, I give thanks unto thee for Thy great and tender mercy. To Thee I flee, O merciful and mighty God. Shine into my heart with the True Sun of Thy righteousness. Enlighten my mind and keep all my senses, that henceforth I may walk uprightly and keep Thy commandments, and may finally attain unto eternal life, even to Thee, Who art the source of life, and be admitted to the glorious fruition of Thy inaccessible Light. For Thou art my God, and unto Thee, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be ascribed glory, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

The Benedictus [Luke 1:68-79]

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
for He has visited and redeemed His people,

He has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of His servant David,
as He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old,

That we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all who hate us;
to perform the mercy promised to our fathers,
and to remember His holy covenant,

The oath which He swore to our father Abraham,
to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness
before Him all the days of our life.

And you, child,
will be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare His ways,

To give knowledge of salvation to His people
in the forgiveness of their sins,
through the tender mercy of our God,
when the day shall dawn upon us from on high

To give light to those who sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Prayer of Basil the Great

O God and Lord of the Powers, and Maker of all creation, Who, because of Thy clemency and incomparable mercy, didst send Thine Only-Begotten Son and our Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind, and with His venerable Cross didst tear asunder the record of our sins, and thereby didst conquer the rulers and powers of darkness; receive from us sinful people, O merciful Master, these prayers of gratitude and supplication, and deliver us from every destructive and gloomy transgression, and from all visible and invisible enemies who seek to injure us. Nail down our flesh with fear of Thee, and let not our hearts be inclined to words or thoughts of evil, but pierce our souls with Thy love, that ever contemplating Thee, being enlightened by Thee, and discerning Thee, the unapproachable and everlasting Light, we may unceasingly render confession and gratitude to Thee: The eternal Father, with Thine Only-Begotten Son, and with Thine All-Holy, Gracious, and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Psalm 22
[A contemplative devotion on Good Friday, at the hour of death of our Lord, or in times of distress]

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Why art thou so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry by day, but thou dost not answer;
And by night, but find no rest.

Yet thou art holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
In thee our fathers trusted; they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
To thee they cried, and were saved:
In thee they trusted, and were not disappointed.

But I am a worm, and no man;
Scorned by men, and despised by the people.
All who see me mock at me,
They make mouths at me, they wag their heads;
He committed his cause to the Lord; Let him deliver him, let him,
Let him rescue him, for he delights in him!

Yet thou are he who took me from the womb;
Thou didst keep me safe upon my mother’s breasts.
Upon thee was I cast from my birth,
And since my mother bore me thou hast been my God.
Be not far from me, for trouble is near
And there is none to help.

Many bulls encompass me,
Strong bulls of Ba’shan surround me;
They open wide their mouths at me,
Like a ravening and roaring lion.

I am poured out like water,
And all my bones are out of joint;
My heart is lie wax,
It is melted within my breast;
My strength is dried up like potsherd,
And my tongue cleaves to my jaws;
Thou dost lay me in the dust of death.

Yea, dogs are round about me;
A company of evildoers encircle me;
They have pierced my hands and feet –
I can count all my bones –
They stare and gloat over me;
They divide my garments among them,
And for my raiment they cast lots.

But thou, O Lord, be not far off!
Thou my help, hasted to my aid!
Deliver my soul from the sword,
My life from the power of the dog!
Save me from the mouth of the lion,
My afflicted soul from the horns of the wild oxen!

I will tell of thy name to my brethren;
In the midst of the congregation I will praise thee:
You, who fear the Lord, praise him!
All you sons of Jacob, glorify him,
And stand in aw of him, all you sons of Israel!
For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
And he has not hid his face from him,
But has heard, when he cried to him.

From thee comes my praise in the great congregation;
My vows I will pay before those who fear him.
The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied;
Those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
May your hearts live forever!

All the end of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord;
And all the families of the nations shall worship before him.
For dominion belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.

Yea, to him shall all the proud of the earth bow down;
Before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, and he who cannot keep himself alive.
Posterity shall serve him; men shall tell of the Lord to the coming generation,
And proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn,
That he has wrought it.

Prayer of St. John Chrysostom – According to the hours of the day and night

1. O Lord, deprive me not of Thy heavenly blessings;
2. O Lord, deliver me from eternal torment;
3. O Lord, if I have sinned in my mind or thought, in word deed, forgive me.
4. O Lord, deliver me from every ignorance and heedlessness, from pettiness of the soul and stony hardness of heart;
5. O Lord, deliver me from every temptation;
6. O Lord, enlighten my heart darkened by evil desires;
7. O Lord, I, being a human being, have sinned; do Thou, being God, forgive me in Thy loving kindness, for Thou knowest the weakness of my soul.
8. O Lord, send down Thy grace to help me, that I may glorify Thy holy Name;
9. O Lord Jesus Christ, inscribe me, Thy servant, in the Book of Life, and grant me a blessed end;
10. O Lord my God, even if I have done nothing good in Thy sight, yet grant me, according to Thy grace, that I may make a start in doing good.
11. O Lord, sprinkle on my heart the dew of Thy grace;
12. O Lord of heaven and earth, remember me, Thy sinful servant, cold of heart and impure, in Thy Kingdom.
13. O Lord, receive me in repentance;
14. O Lord, leave me not;
15. O Lord, save me from temptation;
16. O Lord, grant me pure thoughts;
17. O Lord, grant me tears of repentance, remembrance of death, and the sense of peace;
18. O Lord, grant me mindfulness to confess my sins;
19. O Lord, grant me humility, charity, and obedience;
20. O Lord, grant me tolerance, magnanimity, and gentleness;
21. O Lord, implant in me the root of all blessings: the fear of Thee in my heart;
22. O Lord, vouchsafe that I may love Thee with all my heart and soul, and that I may obey in all things Thy will;
23. O Lord, shield me from evil persons and devils and passions and all other lawless matters;
24. O Lord, Who knowest Thy creation and that which Thou hast willed for it; may Thy will also be fulfilled in me, a sinner, for Thou art blessed forevermore. Amen.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me,
Body of Christ, save me,
Blood of Christ, refresh me,
Water from the side of Christ, wash me,
Passion of Christ, strengthen me,
O Good Jesu, hear me,
Within your wounds hide me,
Suffer me not to be separated from thee,
From the malicious enemy defend me,
In the hour of my death call me,
And bid me come to thee,
That with your Saints I may praise thee
For all eternity. Amen.

O Saving Victim (O Salutaris Hostia.)

O Saving Victim, opening wide
The gate of heaven to man below,
Our foes press on from every side,
Thine aid supply, your strength bestow.
All praise and thanks to you ascend
For evermore, blest One in Three;
O grant us life that shall not end
In our true native land with thee. Amen.

Prayer to One’s Patron Saint

O saint of God, (the name of the saint), pray to God for me, for my home and my family. Amen. Pray to God for me, O saint (the name of the saint), well-pleasing to God, for I readily recommend myself to you, who are the speedy helper and intercessor for my soul. Amen.

A Prayer for the Priesthood

O Jesus Christ, Lord of Lords and King of Kings, lay within the hearts of all thy Priests, the fire of zealous love for thee. Give them wisdom to see and combat the attacks of the enemy. Give them patience, to continue in the face of adversity. Give them strength that they may labor unceasingly in thine earthly vineyard for the salvation of all souls, and the glory of thine all-honorable and majestic Name: of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and forever, unto ages of ages. Amen.

The Breastplate of St. Patrick

I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness of the Creator of creation.

I arise today through the strength of Christ with his Baptism, through the strength of His Crucifixion with His Burial through the strength of His Resurrection with His Ascension, through the strength of His descent for the Judgment of Doom.

I arise today through the strength of the love of Cherubim in obedience of Angels, in the service of the Archangels, in hope of resurrection to meet with reward, in prayers of Patriarchs, in predictions of Prophets, in preachings of Apostles, in faiths of Confessors, in innocence of Holy Virgins, in deeds of righteous men.

I arise today, through the strength of Heaven; light of Sun, brilliance of Moon, splendor of Fire, speed of Lightning, swiftness of Wind, depth of Sea, stability of Earth, firmness of Rock.

I arise today, through God's strength to pilot me: God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's eye to look before me, God's ear to hear me, God's word to speak for me, God's hand to guard me, God's way to lie before me, God's shield to protect me, God's host to secure me: against snares of devils, against temptations of vices, against inclinations of nature, against everyone who shall wish me ill, afar and anear, alone and in a crowd.

I summon today all these powers between me (and these evils): against every cruel and merciless power that may oppose my body and my soul, against incantations of false prophets, against black laws of heathenry, against false laws of heretics, against craft of idolatry, against spells of witches, smiths and wizards, against every knowledge that endangers man's body and soul. Christ to protect me today against poisoning, against burning, against drowning, against wounding, so that there may come abundance in reward.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ in breadth, Christ in length, Christ in height, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness of the Creator of creation. Salvation is of the Lord. Salvation is of the Lord. Salvation is of Christ. May Thy Salvation, O Lord, be ever with us. Amen.

Thou hast raised me from bed and sleep, O Lord; enlighten my mind and heart, and open my lips, that I may praise Thee, O Holy Trinity: Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, O God. For the sake of the Mother of God, have mercy upon us.

O Christ, the True Light, Who illumines and sanctifies every human being coming into the world: let the light of Thy countenance be turned upon us, that in it we may behold the unapproachable Light. guide our footsteps toward working according to Thy commandments, through the intercessions of Thy most pure Mother, and of all the saints. Amen.

For Thou art my Creator, Provider and Bestower of every good; wherefore all my hope is in Thee, and to Thee I ascribe glory, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

We bless Thee, O God in the highest and Lord of mercies, Who ever works great and mysterious deeds for us, glorious, wonderful and countless, Who provides us with sleep as a rest from our infirmities, and as a repose for our bodies tired by labor. We thank Thee that Thou hast not destroyed us in our transgressions, but in Thy love toward mankind, Thou hast raised us up that we might glorify Thy Majesty. We entreat Thine infinite goodness, enlighten the eyes of our understanding and raise up our minds from the heavy sleep of indolence; open our mouths and fill them with Thy praise, that we may unceasingly sing and confess Thee, Who art God glorified in all and by all, the eternal Father, the Only- Begotten Son, and the All-Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Instruct and prepare me in all things for every hour of this day. Whatsoever tidings I may receive during the day, do Thou teach me to accept them calmly, in the firm conviction that all eventualities fulfill Thy holy will. Govern Thou my thoughts and feelings in all I do and say. When things unforeseen occur, let me not forget that all cometh down from Thee. Teach me to behave sincerely and reasonable toward every member of my family and all other human beings, that I may not cause confusion and sorrow to anyone. Bestow upon me, my Lord, strength to endure the fatigue of the day and to bear my share in all its passing events. Guide Thou my will and teach me to pray, to believe, to hope, to suffer, to forgive, and to love. Amen.

Morning Prayer to the Holy Spirit

O Holy Spirit, Divine Spirit of light and love, I consecrate to You my mind, heart and will, my whole being for time and for eternity. May my mind be ever attendant to Thy divine inspirations and to the teachings of the Catholic Apostolic National Church whose infallible guide Thou art; my heart ever inflamed with the love of God and of my neighbor; my will ever conformable to the divine will; and my whole life a faithful imitation of the life and virtues of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom with the Father and You be honor and glory forever. Amen.

Eternal Spirit, increase within my soul, faith, hope and charity, that I may embrace ever more firmly the truths which You have revealed, hope ever confidently in Your divine promises, and love sincerely You, my God, and all my fellow men who were created in Your image and likeness. Amen.

Quench the fiery darts of the Wicked One which are thrown insidiously at us; calm the commotions of our flesh and put away all thoughts about worldly and material things as we go to sleep. Grant us, O god, a watchful mind, chaste thoughts, a sober heart, and a gentle sleep, free from all the fantasies of Satan. And raise us up again at the hour of prayer, established in Thy commandments and holding steadfast within ourselves the remembrance of Thy judgments. Give us the words of Thy glorification all night long, that we may praise, bless, and glorify Thy most honorable and magnificent name, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

V: Lord, we beg you to look with favor on this family of yours, for which our Lord Jesus Christ did not hesitate to be handed over to wicked men and to submit to death on the cross.

[Then all say the Our Father silently; the rest is omitted.]

On Good Friday

[At both meals all is said as on Maundy Thursday, except that the versicle is:]
V: For our sake Christ was obedient unto death, even to death on the cross.

V: Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity.
R: Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
V: For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me.
R: To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou may be justified in thy words and may overcome when thou art judged.
V: For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me.
R: For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.
V: Thou shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shall wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.
R: To my hearing thou shall give joy and gladness: and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.
V: Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
R: Create a clean heart in me, O God: and renew a right spirit within my bowels.
V: Cast me not away from thy face; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
R: Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.
V: I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.
R: Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall extol thy justice.
V: O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare thy praise.
R: For if thou had desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.
V: A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
R: Deal favorably, O Lord, in thy good will with Zion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up. Then shall thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.

[Lastly the priest says:]
Grant, we beg you, almighty God, that we who devoutly anticipate the resurrection of your Son may partake of the glory of His resurrection.

V: The chief priests and the Pharisees went and secured the grave.
R: By sealing the slab and setting the guard.

[The rest as on Maundy Thursday.]

[After the evening meal the same versicle and response is said as before the meal; then follow the verses of psalm 116:]
V: Praise the Lord, all you nations; * glorify Him, all you peoples.
R: His love for us is enduring; * He is faithful forever.

[After this the Our Father is said silently; and then the prayer ]
"Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God" as after the noonday meal.

R: They spoke in foreign tongues, alleluia. Glory be to the Father, etc., and the rest as Blessing at Meals.

[On entering the home the priest sprinkles holy water in the living room and on the members of the family, saying:]
Cleanse me with hyssop, Lord, and I shall be clean of sin. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Have mercy on me, God in your great kindness. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

R: As it was in the beginning, etc.
V: Our help is in the name of the Lord.
R: Who hath made heaven and earth.

R: And with thy spirit.

Let us pray:
Hear us, holy Lord and Father, almighty everlasting God, and in your goodness send your holy angel from heaven to watch over and protect all who live in this home, to be with them and give them comfort and encouragement; pouring forth your divine blessings and grace, that they may abound in they who live herein, through Christ our Lord.
R: Amen.

Let us pray.
Lord Jesus Christ, as I, in all humility, enter this home, let there enter with me abiding happiness and God's choicest blessings. Let serene joy pervade this home and charity abound here and health never fail. Let no evil spirits approach this place but drive them far away. Let your angels of peace take over and put down all wicked strife, and set a holy watch round about this home. Teach us, O Lord, to recognize the majesty of your holy name. Sanctify our humble visit and bless X what we are about to do; you who are holy, you who are kind, you who abide with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
R: Amen.

R: And dwelt among us.

V: Hail Mary ...
R: Holy Mary ...

V: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

V: Let us pray.
All: Pour forth, we beseech the, O Lord, thy grace unto our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, thy Son, was made known by the message of an Angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Ave Maria

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee!
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but, in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

The Magnificat

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Regina Caeli (Queen of Heaven, Rejoice!)

Queen of Heaven, rejoice! Alleluia!
For the Son thou wast privileged to bear, Alleluia!
Is risen as He said. Alleluia!
Pray for us to God. Alleluia!
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Alleluia!
For the Lord is truly risen. Alleluia.

Let us pray:
O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ, grant, we beseech thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, his Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life: Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. X

Salve Regina (Hail, Holy Queen)

Hail, Holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Pray for us, O holy mother of God:
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:
Almighty and everlasting God, by the cooperation of the Holy Spirit thou hast prepared the body and soul of Mary, glorious Virgin and Mother, to become the worthy habitation of Thy Son; Grant that by her gracious intercession, in whose commemoration we rejoice, we may be delivered from present evils and from everlasting death. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. May divine assistance remain with us always.
R. Amen.

Prayer to Mary, the Theotokos

Rejoice Mary, Mother of God, Virgin, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, for thou hast borne the Savior of our souls. Meet it is in truth, to glorify thee, O Birth-giver of God, ever blessed, and all undefiled, the Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, thou who without stain didst bear God the word, true Birth-giver of God, we magnify thee.

O gracious Mother of the gracious God, O most pure and blessed Mary, the Mother of God, pour the mercy of thy Son and our God upon my impassionate soul, and with thine intercessions set me unto good deeds, that I may pass the rest of my life without blemish and, with thine aid, attain heaven. O Virgin mother of God, the only one who art pure and blessed. O Queen of the Heavenly Host, Defender of our souls: being delivered from evil, as thy servants, O Mother of God, we offer unto thee the hymns of thanks and victory; but as thou hast power invincible, deliver us from all calamity, that we may cry unto thee: Rejoice, O ever-Virgin Bride!

O virgin, spotless, undefiled, unstained, all-chaste and Pure Lady, Bride of God, who by the glorious birth-giving hast united God the Word with Man and linked our fallen nature with Heavenly Things; who art the hope of the hopeless, the helper of the oppressed, the ready protection of those who haste unto thee, and the refuge of Christians; despise me not, who am defiled and sinful, who by my wicked thoughts, words and deeds, have become an unworthy servant, and by my slothfulness have turned into a slave to evil affections. O Mother of the God of Love, have mercy and compassion upon me, a sinner and a prodigal. Accept this prayer which is offered to thee from my impure lips; and putting forward thy maternal influence with thy Son, my Lord and Master, beseech Him to open unto me the loving kindness of His grace; beseech Him to overlook my countless transgressions, to give me true repentance and to make me to be a zealous doer of His commandments. And thou, being gracious and compassionate and tender-hearted, be thou ever present with me in this life as my defender and helper, so that I may turn aside the assault of my enemies, and guide me into salvation; help my poor soul at the hour of my death, and drive far from it all the dark forms of the evil ones. And in the dreadful Judgment Day, deliver me from everlasting punishment, and present me as an inheritor of the ineffable glory of the son, our God.

O may I obtain this, most-holy Lady and Birth-giver of God, through thine intercessions and mediations, by the grace and exceeding great love of thine Only-Begotten son, my Lord and God and Savior, Jesus Christ, to Whom is due, with the eternal Father and the All-Holy, Good and Life-Giving Spirit, all honor and glory and worship, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
O most glorious Ever-Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ our God, accept our prayers and present them to thy son and our God, that He may, for thy sake, enlighten and save our souls.

CREEDAL STATEMENTS OF THE CHURCH

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
He came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. [all bow during these words.]
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and His kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father.
With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look to the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Athanasian Creed

Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the Catholic faith.
Which faith except everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.
And the Catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity,
Neither confounding the Persons nor dividing the Substance.
For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Ghost.
But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal.
Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Ghost.
The Father uncreated, the Son uncreated and the Holy Ghost uncreated
The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, and the Holy Ghost incomprehensible.
The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Ghost eternal.
And yet they are not three Eternals, but one Eternal.
As there are not three Uncreated nor three Incomprehensibles, but one Uncreated and one Incomprehensible.
So likewise the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Ghost almighty.
And yet they are not three Almighties, but one Almighty.
So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God.
And yet they are not three Gods, but one God.
So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Ghost Lord.
And yet not three Lords, but one Lord.
For like as we are compelled by the Christian verity to acknowledge every Person by Himself to be God and Lord,
So are we forbidden by the Catholic religion to say, There be three Gods or three Lords.
The Father is made of none, neither created nor begotten.
The Son is of the Father alone, not made nor created, but begotten.
The Holy Ghost is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created nor begotten, but proceeding.
So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Ghost, not three Holy Ghosts.
And in this Trinity none is before or after other; none is greater or less than another;
But the whole three Persons are coeternal together and coequal, so that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is to be worshiped.
He, therefore, that will be saved must thus think of the Trinity.
Furthermore, it is necessary to everlasting salvation that he also believe faithfully the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For the right faith is that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man;
God of the Substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and Man of the substance of His mother, born in the world;
Perfect God and perfect Man, of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting,
Equal to the Father as touching His Godhead and inferior to the Father as touching His manhood;
Who, although He be God and Man, yet He is not two, but one Christ:
One, not by conversion of the Godhead into flesh, but by taking the manhood into God;
One altogether; not by confusion of Substance, but by unity of Person.
For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one man, so God and Man is one Christ;
Who suffered for our salvation; descended into hell; rose again the third day from the dead;
He ascended into heaven; He sitteth on the right hand of the Father, God Almighty; from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
At whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies and shall give an account of their own works.
And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting; and they that have done evil, into everlasting fire.
This is the Catholic faith; which except a man believe faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord.
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary;
suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended into hell.
On the third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
From thence He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the Communion of Saints,
the Forgiveness of Sins,
the Resurrection of the body,
and the Life everlasting. Amen.

You died for love of me, and it is my wish, O my dearest Redeemer, to be willing to die for love of you. O my beloved Jesus, in your love I wish to live, and in your love I wish to die. Amen. X

PRAYERS AT MASS

[The server leads the people in praying the responses aloud.]

ANTIPHON

[Joining his hands, he says alternately with the servers]
P. Give sentence with me, O God, and defend my cause against the ungodly people: O deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.
S. For thou art the God of my strength; why hast thou put me from thee: and why go I so heavily, while the enemy oppresses me?

P. O send out thy light and thy truth that they may lead me: and bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy dwelling.
S. And that I may go unto the altar of God, even unto the God of my joy and gladness, and upon the harp I will give thanks unto you, O God, my God.

P. Why art thou so heavy, O my soul: and why art thou so disquieted within me?
S. O put thy trust in God; for I will yet give him thanks: who is the help of my countenance, and my God.

[Here at the “Glory be”, the priest bows his head to the Cross]
P. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
S. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

P. I will go unto the Altar of God.
S. Even unto the God of my joy and gladness.

The Confiteor
[Joining his hands and humbly bowing down the priest prays:]

I confess to Almighty God, to blessed Mary ever a Virgin, to blessed Michael the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, to all the saints, and to you, Brethren, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, and deed,

[Here, the priest strikes his breast three times]

through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore, I beseech the Blessed Mary, ever a Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, all the saints, and you, Brethren, to pray to the Lord our God for me.

PRIVATE PRAYERS BEFORE COMMUNION

Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas – Before Communion

Almighty and everlasting God, behold I approach the sacrament of Thine only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ: I come as one sick to the physician of life, unclean to the fountain of mercy, blind to the light of eternal brightness, poor and in need of the Lord of heaven and of earth. Therefore, I beseech the abundance of Thine infinite bounty that Thou wouldst vouchsafe to heal my weakness, wash my uncleanness, give light to my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness, so that I may receive the Bread of Angels, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords with such reverence and humility, such contrition and devotion, such purity and faith, such purpose and intention, as shall aid my soul's salvation.

Grant, I beseech Thee, not only to receive the sacrament of the Body and Blood of the Lord, but also its full reality and power. O most merciful God, grant me so to receive the Body of Thine only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, which He took from the Virgin Mary, that I may merit to be incorporated into His mystical Body and to be numbered among His members.

O most loving Father, give unto me to behold for all eternity face to face Thine own beloved Son, whom now upon my pilgrimage I purpose to receive under a veil, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Prayer of St. Ambrose – Before Communion

O gracious Lord Jesus Christ, to the table of Thy most sweet banquet do I, a sinner, approach with fear and trembling, relying in no wise upon mine own merits, but having confidence in Thy mercy and goodness. My heart and my body are defiled with many sins; my mind and my tongue are not watched over with care. Therefore, O loving God, O fearful Majesty, wretchedly caught in the midst of my extremities do I turn to Thee, the fountain of mercy; to Thee do I hasten to be healed; to Thy protection do I fly. And for Thee, before whom as Judge I cannot stand, as Savior do I yearn.

To Thee, O Lord, do I show my wounds; to Thee do I uncover my shame. I know that my sins are many and great, and for them I am fearful. I hope in Thy mercies, for of them there is no number. Therefore look upon me with Thine eyes of mercy, O Lord Jesus Christ, eternal King, God and man, crucified for man's sake. Graciously hear me who hope in Thee; have mercy on me who am full of wretchedness and sin, Thou who ceasest never to flow as a fountainhead of mercy.

Hail, Saving Victim, offered up upon the gibbet of the Cross for me and for all men. Hail, noble and Precious Blood, flowing from the wounds of my crucified Lord Jesus Christ and washing away the sins of the whole world. Remember, O Lord, Thy creature, whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy Blood. I repent that I have sinned; I desire to amend what I have done.

Take from me, therefore, O most merciful Father, all my iniquities and my sins, so that cleansed in mind and body I may worthily taste the Holy of Holies. Grant that this holy reception of Thy Body and Blood, which I purpose to take, unworthy though I am, may bring to me pardon for my sins, the perfect cleansing of my faults, the expulsion of evil thoughts, and the renewal of good feelings, the health and efficacy of good works, pleasing unto Thee, and a most strong protection both in soul and body against the wiles of my enemies. Amen.

PRAYERS AFTER LOSS MASS
[After Low Mass, the priest kneeling at the altar steps, prays with the people the following:]

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.
[Three times]

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

P: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R: That we be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

P: Let us pray. O God, our refuge and our strength, look down with favor upon Thy people who cry to Thee; and through the intercession of the glorious Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of her spouse, blessed Joseph, of Thy holy apostles, Peter and Paul, and all the saints, mercifully and graciously hear the prayers which we pour forth to Thee for the conversion of sinners and for the liberty and exaltation of holy mother Church. Through the same Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

St. Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil. We humbly beseech God to command him. And do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the divine power thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits who roam through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Invocation After Mass

P: Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
R: Have mercy on us! [three times]
