|

The Primate of the Church in the Phillipines, Archbishop Joseph Galaroza has called for a return to a sensible and Christian viewpoint, on behalf of the Roman Catholic Bishops of the Phillipines, who have been attacking the Igreja Catolica Apostolica Brasileira nas Filipinas, under his care. In his open letter, he refutes the attacks against the church, and the claims that the Holy Orders of the Church are not valid. His open letter is available through the website of the CANC (U.S.) to view, at: http://www.oldcatholic.com/openletter.pdf .
I have written a letter supporting Archbishop Galaroza's fight, and have faxed both to the Roman Catholic Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, in Washington, D.C. My letter can be viewed through the CANC (U.S.) website, at: http://www.oldcatholic.com/delegate.pdf and will soon be linked through the U.S. church's news page.
I ask everyone to make common cause with our church family in the Phillipines, as these attacks have been ongoing. I have been in communication with Archbishop Galaroza and his staff regarding this growing problem over the past months, as has been our Patriarch, Dom Luis.
Copies of both letters have been sent to our Patriarch and also to our own College of Bishops and to every Primate in the ICAN Communion. As a family of faith, we will all rush to the aid of our brothers and sisters in Christ, who are in need. _________________ Bishop Andre' Jhohn-William Queen, SCR

I was speaking online with a missionary in the locale of our brothers from the sunny islands. It would seem he is suggesting that the RCC there is taking somewhat of a knee-jerk reaction to orther churches in response to the attacks which it is also having to endure. Not that their treatment of our family is justified, or even unique to the Philipeans, but I think it is important to have as much insight as possible. I post his letter below for your edification and pray that the Lord would strengthen and unite ALL who labour in truth for the sake of His name.
"Steven,
"No, I am not aware of your group but I will visit them. I go to
Manila often and it looks as if one of your priests is close to me. I
really do not have much trouble relating to the Latin Rite priests.
They even call me on occasion to to help in various ways.
"When I first came here I was a Protestant and I prayed in the
Cathedral in Imus, Cavite every day from 7AM to noon. One day a
tricycle driver parked his motorcycle in front of the Cathedral and
he came over to me as I was sitting at a bench outside after my
prayers. My prayer was for God to use me and what transpired was
nothing less than miraculous.
"He came up to me and asked if I was a priest. I guess he asked the
question because I was an American but I was dressed in shorts and a
t-shirt and looked nothing like a priest who usually wear cassocks
here. I told him that I was a Protestant minister and told him I
would get one of the priests for him. He said no, that he wanted to
talk with me. I asked him how I could help him and he related to me
that he had been approached by the Iglesia ni Cristo about becoming
one of their members and leaving the Church and that he was
conflicted about the decision. He said he would like to talk with me
further but he had to work. We decided to meet the next morning
across the street from the Cathedral at a small park. He showed up
the next morning with several other people and they started to ask me
questions about the Church and whether the Church conflicted with the
Scriptures in specific ways that the INC were accusing the Church of
doing. I found myself defending the Church because the accusations
were wrong and found myself forced to become an apologist for
Catholicism. This started to be a daily meeting and the group grew.
One day the INC people showed up a challenged me to a impromptu
debate in front of those I was instructing. I kind of expected this
to happen as the INC Church was just a couple of blocks away and they
tend to confront their detractors with hatred and threats. That was
the first time I was called a Romanist. I defended the Catholic
Church adequately against the best debaters they could muster.
"Word got out to the Bishop that there was a Protestant defending the
Church across from the Cathedral and he sent one of the priests over
one day to question me as to my intentions. I told him my only
intentions were to save as many souls as I could from this heretical
sect. He called me over to meet the bishop and I got to know him.
"There is a lot of paranoia with the Bishops about other churches. If
you saw the efforts of some of them to draw Catholics away you would
understand. Thousands of Catholics are falling as prey for all these
heretical churches. One of the explanations for the paranoia is that
they are afraid of losing revenue but I doubt that is the reason but
instead I believe that they have developed a siege mentality by all
the attacks. They are highly skeptical of anyone who is not Latin
Rite Catholic. They even have their own homegrown schismatic group
the Aglipayan Church.
"I think I have won them over by joining them in a philosophical way
to defend their faith. They have seen the results in the lay minister
instruction we are doing in keeping people within the Church. We do
not take their members away but keep them within the fold and assist
in keeping at least some of the ravenous wolves at bay. They have no
fear of us as a threat as we have demonstrated our love for Christ's
Church even though I disagree with some of the teaching." _________________ Pax!
