Christ the King Seminary Poised For Student Enrollment Surge

This year sees new things for Christ the King Theological Seminary. After passing re-certification in the State of Illinois without a problem, the seminary rolled out its new CD-ROM based programs to be used by seminarians in preparation for ordination to the priesthood, as well as programs for laity wishing to increase their depth of understanding of the faith. The program is designed to provide sound instruction, and includes ebooks, video and audio courses, designed to be used in conjunction with an enclosed syllabus and course book listing of books and videotape to be purchased for the course, and also a solid timetable for completing each course of study, broken down to a week-by-week course of study. In other news, the history book, “Old Catholic: History, Ministry, Faith & Mission” written by Bishop Queen, has been used as a course book in a post graduate course on Catholicism at Duke University. This is a great honor for our researching, writing and publishing efforts. Several new publications are on the list for release in 2005 and early 2006, that the Church is sure to enjoy, including a second edition of the Catechism in hardcover, a work on living Christ’s love in our everyday lives, and a book on the history of the Brazilian Catholic Apostolic National Church. Check back often!

Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Lays A Solid Foundation

Rev. Fr. Michael Smith is laying down roots for the new parish, Holy Redeemer. Based in Covington County, Alabama, Fr. Smith knows that he has his hands full. With the support of a small but dedicated group, with the grace of God, we know that this parish will blossom and prosper. Congratulations Fr. Smith!

Salvation! Aisle 5!

Men and women at shopping centers in Southern California are bound to get a big surprise, the next time they need to pick up an extra gallon of milk. Rev. Fr. Jerome Kwasek, Episcopal Vicar for California, has taken the initiative to meet the people where they are in everyday life. With the permission of the center’s owners, he has set up a table, a couple of chairs, and a sign with a challenge few can resist, “Religious and Life Questions Answered Here”. His efforts have elicited everything from a quick tongue stuck out and “the raspberry”, to a young man deciding to discern a vocation within a religious order, In addition, questions and inquiries were made from our Protestant brethren, who left with a more accurate understanding of the Catholic faith. What a great way to share our faith with others! Try this in your area, and see how the Holy Spirit moves!

Rev. Fr. Chad Brown, nSCR, Is Honored For His Chaplaincy Work

“West Pasco County Volunteer Fire Department recognized some of its members for their hard work in the past year serving the department. West Pasco County Volunteer Fire Rescue is one of the oldest volunteer fire departments in the county which also has a career division also. The volunteers all man their own stations 24/7 and complete more than 36,000 hours per year in training and in calls together.”

“Firefighter, first responder, Chaplain Father Chad Brown, is also honored as Pasco County's first and only Fire Chaplain ever. He is the volunteer's only chaplain they ever had. Fr. Brown is experienced in Elevator (Agriculture) rescue, OSHA and confined space rescue, and hazardous explosion rescue. He is also certified in animal rescues. Fr. Brown was a fire chaplain in Iowa, and Missouri for a few years before coming to us. He still performs weddings and baptisms, including prayer services at the department. He opens all board meetings with the pledge, and a prayer. He logs on average more than 80 hours a week at the station, and is currently assigned to Rehab One. He stops in three times a week out of his way, to stock Rehab 1 with ice and water. We often see Fr. Brown at almost every function, parade, fundraiser, or whatever we need to have done. He is the only person who comes forward to do the duties out of love of his department without question or being asked. He is currently the Health and Wellness chairperson and serves on the fundraising, and rehab committees. He is West Pasco County's Argent at Arms board member. He is also the president of the Florida Fire Chaplain's Ministries. (Fr. Brown's job is too much for us to type, as he has does a lot of things for the betterment of our community and the County) Congratulations Fr. Brown!”

We are called to be Christ for one another, and to do so in such a way that reaches people in their everyday lives. Rev. Fr. Chad Brown, nSCR reaches people at the worst possible time in their life, a calling that many would shy away from, he runs toward. We are very proud of Fr. Chad, and pray that Almighty God graces us with many more years of his selfless service!
